When I put myself on the waiting list for this book on the Libby app a few months ago to borrow, it looked like an interesting mystery to read. But what I did not know was that it’s a mystery involving the supernatural. And it has some elements of a horror book, but it didn’t feel like a horror book to me. But if it had been adapted into a movie- I could see it being a horror film.

The story is told in first person by Marshall Miller, the main character of the book- He is telling the story as if he is an author writing an autobiography about the events that happened to him several decades ago in 1999 when he was 16-17 years old. He tells us readers that most of what he is going to tell us, he has never told many people before.

Without giving spoilers, I will say this much since its basically the plot- it starts with him getting pulled over by an officer on the day he gets a driver’s license. He remembers looking into his rearview mirror and seeing a scared young teenager girl in the back of the squad car. He doesn’t think too much of it until a few months later when he learns that a teenage girl has gone missing, and not only that, but she also went missing on the same day as he saw a girl in the back of a cop car. He realizes it’s the same girl, and there begins the mystery!

I won’t get into the supernatural aspects of it, because I can’t without giving spoilers- but i will say that there is much more to the story than meets the eye. I don’t normally read much supernatural books (aside from John Saul and Dean Koontz books), but I liked this book. It had me captivated, and I finished this 516 page long book in just a few days. If you like mysteries mixed with the supernatural- might want to give this one a try!
