If you think I’m a nerd for enjoying Marvel, and Star Wars content, then so be it- I’m a nerd! In the last several years, there has been controversy among Star Wars and Marvel fans about the direction that Disney has been going in- as far as the creation of these movies and shows. I think some of the criticism come from some people merely because they disagree with what they believe are Disney’s “politics” in the Real World, as well in the content that they churn out. While other criticism come from people who are hardcore fans who have high standards for what they want to see- and for some people it’s both.

I don’t mention this because I want to get in a debate about who’s right and who’s wrong, because I don’t. Especially because I don’t think you can paint it so cleanly as right or wrong. People have opinions, and they have the right to them, and their opinions are valid, because that’s how they feel. The only reason I mention all this, is because I want to point out that I deviate from all of that. I am not that hard to please when it comes to movies and tv shows. Or even with books for that matter. If you read some or most of my posts, you will see that they are mostly positive, and this is why.

Agatha All Along is basically a spinoff series from the Marvel series, WandaVision that was about Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), the Scarlet Witch, and Vision (Paul Bettany) and their family. Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) was a neighbor in that series. that is the short gist of that show although its much more complicated than that, but I can’t get into it without giving spoilers to that show.

Agatha All Along brings back Kathryn Hahn as Agatha, and this takes place after the events of WandaVision. Agatha has lost her powers, and her enemies, particularly Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), wants to kill her. Agatha buys herself some time, by convincing Rio, that killing her (Agatha) would be much more satisfying, if Agatha was allowed the opportunity to gain her powers back first. Agatha convinces several other witches: Lilia (Patti LuPone), Jennifer (Sasheer Zamata), Alice (Ali Ahn), and Mrs. Hart (Debra Jo Rupp) to come together as a coven and accompany her on the Witch’s Road to go through several trials, at the end of which, she hopes to get her powers back. They are accompanied by a mysterious teen simply known as “Teen” (Joe Locke).

Just like many of Star Wars and Marvel series, the show starts off slow or even weird, and I find myself wondering if it’s going to be any good- but then things ramp up and by the end of the series, it puts everything in context, and I end up liking the show as a whole. I enjoyed the show with its surprises, intense moments and twists. I enjoyed it especially having watched it during Halloween season.

I know that this show is not going to be for everyone, but I’m hoping that some of you will at least give the show a try!

Loved this show. It was great seeing a female protagonist that was an anti-hero (and who wasn’t a villain because she’d been Wronged By A Man). It was also great seeing a group of adult women as the main characters. One or two sexualized female teenage sidekicks is usually all we can expect from Marvel (and most other franchises, actually), but here they were – women having agency, women with backstories, women who weren’t cowering or in need of rescue by a male protagonist.
