This is a great action thriller movie from the 1990s directed by Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer. A disgruntled General Francis Hummel (played by Ed Harris) along with a group of mercenaries have taken over the tourist attraction Alcatraz Island (a former prison out in the middle of the San Francisco Bay) and taken tourists hostage. They are in possession of deadly chemical weapons and threaten to launch them on the population of San Francisco unless the US Government pays $100 million for the families of fallen soldiers that the general believes were thrown aside and forgotten by the government. The FBI brings in an FBI chemical specialist, agent Stanley Goodspeed (played by Nicolas Cage), and a prisoned British spy John Mason (played by Sean Connery), who once escaped from Alcatraz.
Many of you probably already knew all the above as you probably have already seen it- it’s a popular movie. The plot is awesome, the action and special effects are amazing, and the sarcastic chemistry between Goodspeed and Mason is hilarious. Back in 2013, a group of friends and I went on a road trip to San Francisco, and we decided we were going to Alcatraz Island, so before we left on the trip, we actually watched this movie to hype us up for the trip. On the way out there, some of my friends actually recreated the iconic scene in the movie of Cage kneeling with green flares his hands as military jets flew overhead, at various locations, although I did not realize this until after we had gotten back from the trip!
I have watched this movie many times, and if you somehow have not seen it, and you like action flicks- go watch it!
