Many of you are probably aware of the disaster where a group of people went down in a submersible to get a look at the Titanic wreckage and something went wrong, and everybody died in the accident.

This documentary basically gives you the behind the scenes look into how everything in led up to that point. Told through internal documentary footage shot by the company during the whole process, as well as employees from their perspective. It also includes some of the investigation afterwards.

Oftentimes when you hear about a major accident, or a disaster on the news- there is often a lot of speculation and quick beliefs formed by people not involved in the situation and heard about it. Not only that, but you also have media outlets trying to compete with each other to report information first, so sometimes they skip verifying the information before reporting it. For example, remember the high school massacre in Columbine all these years ago? Or the 35W collapse here in Minnesota? Both incidents initially had some of the media reporting the death toll as possibly in the hundreds. But when all was said and done, Columbine had I believe 17 fatalities, including the two shooters. And the bridge collapse had only 13 fatalities. So what does that tell us? Right or wrong, we won’t get all the information in the media. Which is why I enjoy documentaries. You get to learn more about things that happened, and oftentimes, what led up to them.

With that said, I do acknowledge that documentaries are not always perfect either. Sometimes filmmakers have their own beliefs, and they will either intentionally or unintentionally slant their film or series to show only the side that they believe in.

But one of the strong things that this documentary has going for it, is that it has a lot of internal footage shot by the people working for the company- showing the steps and decisions being made in developing the submersible. So, it’s hard to argue with what you see in these. I’m not really one for spoilers, so I won’t get into specifics of what this documentary shows, but if you are curious to learn more about what happened, I would definitely recommend you check this out if you have access to Netflix!
