This was a very difficult movie to watch. Very well done, but kind of hard to take in- at least at times. Don (Richard Schiff), Cindy (Robin Weigert) and their son Ryder (Logan Miller) go on a road trip for an extended family reunion on Cindy’s side of the family.
But once they get there, you can see and feel the tension. And you know that there’s stuff going on there. There are friendly family members, and not so friendly ones. It doesn’t take long for stuff to hit the fan so to speak.
I’m not normally one for spoilers, but I share this here, because anyone who watches this movie should know this beforehand- but there is an incident, and Ryder is quickly accused by his uncle of sexually touching one of his young cousins- and because this is a hard topic, I assure you it did not happen. But the tension from the accusations sets the tone for the rest of the movie, and it is not long before you start to see that there are serious family issues going on in Cindy’s family- and family secrets start coming out.
Like I said, they did a great job of making the movie- but it is a dark movie that touches different difficult topics, so this movie is not going to be for everyone. Even I regret that I did not know enough about what it was about before I watched it. So, my advice is proceed with caution.
