Have you seen the movie Wonder, or read the book? This movie is based on a book written by the same author of Wonder and takes place in the same universe. This takes place probably several years after the events in Wonder. We see Julian (Bryce Gheisar) again- if you are familiar with Wonder, you might remember him as the bully in that story.
He is now starting at a new school, and is struggling to adapt, and figuring out his place- and who he should be. One day after school, he is surprised to see his grandma Sara (Helen Mirren) in their home. He tells her about his school struggles, and she decides that it is time to tell him a story. A story from her childhood. As a jewish teen girl in France during the war, as Germany (the Nazis) slowly starts to occupy her town. Sara (Ariella Glaser) barely escapes when the nazis invade her school to round up the jewish students. She is rescued by a crippled teen boy Julien (Orlando Schwerdt) who is afflicted with polio. He takes her home and hides her in their barn.
That’s all I will reveal as not to spoil the story for these of you who have not read the book or seen the movie. But it’s a story about courage and kindness. A lesson that Grandma Sara is trying to bestow upon her grandson. I liked the movie a lot- I have not read the book as of yet, but I will be adding it to the list of books that i want to read.
If this sounds interesting to you- check it out!
