I watched this movie the other night- if you thought it was going to be a sequel to the 1996 Twister film with Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt, you would be wrong. In fact, there is only one subtle reference to the original. Which is a bummer in my opinion- I would have liked to see more of a connection- maybe even cameos of some of the original characters minus the late Bill Paxton.

But if you watch this movie from the mindset, as if it is a whole new movie, I think you might enjoy it even without the link to the original. As a college student, Kate Carter (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her team comes with the great idea of attempting an experiment to see if they can make tornadoes stop in their paths. But the attempt goes awry, and tragedy strikes. Fast forward five years later, Kate is working in a weather center away from the field, when an old friend Javi (Anthony Ramos) who was a member of her original team appears and persuades her to join him in a tornado chasing mission to attempt an experiment of his own- he needs her, he says, because she is the best at knowing where a tornado will appear. Tyler Owens (Glen Powell) rounds out the main cast as a rival maverick tornado chaser with a strong YouTube presence.

The movie, just like the original, is full of tornadoes, thrills, conflicts, intense moments, and romance- it has it all. Even though I have a real fear of tornadoes, I enjoyed the movie, and you might too. Check it out!
