Again, another great movie from the 90’s- it seems like nowadays, we have fewer great hits than we did back in the 90’s- or is that just me? The plot of this one– a mad bomber Howard (played by Dennis Hopper) has put a bomb on a city bus and has rigged it to explode if it goes below 50 miles per hour. The hero of the movie, LAPD SWAT officer Jack Traven (played by Keanu Reeves) quickly learns of this, and risks his life to get onboard the bus, and he works alongside passenger Annie (played by Sandra Bullock) to keep the bus speeding throughout Los Angeles while officers, including fellow SWAT officer Harry (played by Jeff Daniels) try to track down the bomber.

If you have seen the movie multiple times like I have, you might see some minor errors that likely were missed in editing, such as the bus jump scene- some of you probably know what I’m talking about! But despite that- the movie is solid. Hopper does an excellent job of playing the villain with a grudge against the police department. Reeves is amazing as the frustrated hero trying to save the day. Bullock is hilarious as the sarcastic passenger just trying to get through the day. The chemistry between Jack and Annie is undeniable, which is probably why Speed 2 did not do well since Reeves declined to star in the sequel. Well, that and the implausible speeding boat plot, maybe?

I heard recently that Reeves and Bullock have signaled an interest to do a movie together again sometime- considering how much time has passed since Speed and Speed 2, I would think Speed 3 would be unlikely to happen, but I’d watch it!

In conclusion, Speed is a great movie, and if you havent, go see it!
