This is a fantastic 1990’s court drama movie based on John Grisham’s book by the same name. It stars Tommy Lee Jones as US District Attorney Roy Foltrigg, Susan Sarandon as a small time lawyer Reggie Love, and Brad Renfro as Mark Sway, the young boy who is the client.
The plot is basically this–Mark inadvertently learns things he should not know and puts his and his family’s lives in danger. So, he doesn’t want to get involved, but DA Foltrigg is trying to use legal maneuvers to force him to reveal what he knows. Mark in desperation hires Reggie Love to be his attorney and protect him. So, on one side, he is fighting the US Attorney’s office, and on the other side, he is fighting to stay alive as mob killers are dispatched to kill him before he can reveal what he knows.
There is an excellent supporting cast as well with Mary Louise Parker as Mark’s troubled mother, Anthony Edwards as Reggie’s assistant, and Anthony LaPaglia as one of the mobsters after Mark. I also love the movie poster (seen in the image above), it basically conveys everything that the movie is about!
If you haven’t seen this, I recommend checking this out- and maybe read the book while you are at it!
