This is one of my favorite comedies that I have seen time again and again. Kevin Kline plays a dual role in this movie, as President Bill Mitchell, and as Dave Kovic, the manager of a temp agency. The Secret Service hires Dave to step in as a double for President Mitchell at one of his events. When the night doesn’t go as planned, the President is incapacitated, and Dave finds himself stuck masquerading as the President full time.
It also stars Sigourney Weaver as the First Lady, Frank Langella as the Chief of Staff, Ben Kingsley as the Vice President, Ving Rhames as a Secret Service agent, and Kevin Dunn as I think Communications Director (I don’t think they every specifically said his role in the movie).
I love the concept of this movie- an everyman suddenly dumped in the Oval Office, who finds himself trying to do good things for the country. A completely contrast to President Mitchell, who is not a good man, and was doing selfish things. There are plenty of comedic moments where the jovial Dave shakes things up to the delight of the public.
A movie I definitely recommend.
