This is the second book in the Percy Jackson series, so if you haven’t read the first book (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), you may not want to read this review as even though I try to avoid spoilers, you might gleam some details from the first book, if you read on.

Percy, Annabeth, and Grover are back for another adventure. This time around, their camp, Camp Half Blood (a camp for kids who are half mortals and half demigods) is in trouble, so Percy and Annabeth go on a Quest in the hopes of saving their camp. They also have a personal side quest to save their friend Grover.

To give some background to these of you who are not familiar with this series- Percy is the son of Poseidon (God of the Sea), Annabeth is the daughter of Athena (Goddess of wisdom, wars, and the crafts), and Grover is a Satyr (a half human male/half goat). There are some other returning characters such as Chiron (the camp’s activities director who is half man, and half horse), Dionysus (also known as Mr. D, the camp director), Luke (son of Hermes, God of Speed and Travel, also a messenger of the gods).

I actually watched the two movies, and the first season of the Disney+ series based on the books first, and I liked them, and decided I wanted to read the books too. I am really enjoying the series so far. I am on the library waiting list for the third book in the series, (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Titan’s Curse), and I look forward to reading it!
