Last week, I wrote about the book The Martian (see post titled “The Martian (2011) vs The Martian (2015)” under the Book vs Movie category) and this book was written by the same author as that book. This too is a science fiction book with a life and death situation in space.

In this book, Ryland Grace is a schoolteacher who one day wakes up and finds himself stranded alone on a spaceship in space and has no memory of who he is or why he is in space. When i saw this book with this plot, and knowing this was the same author as The Martian- I knew I had to read this book. And I’m glad I did.

If you loved either the book or the movie, The Martian- you would love this book. It gives off a lot of the same vibes as that story, along with the same sarcastic sense of humor. I loved following the progress of Grace trying to solve who he is, and what his mission is, and ultimately how to succeed in completing his mission. There are plenty of unexpected dangers and twists, and fun lessons about science and technology. There are also a few nuggets of life lessons as well.

There’s not much else I can really say about this without giving away spoilers, but I definitely recommend this book. Also, they are actually working on making this into a movie with Ryan Gosling, so stay tuned for that as well!!
