This is one of my all-time favorite movies- and i have watched it multiple times. Unfortunately, I have not read the book that it is based on, as of yet, but it’s definitely on my list to do so at some point!

This is a story about August (Auggie) Pullman (played by Jacob Tremblay), a young boy who was born with a condition that caused some deformity to his face- despite multiple surgeries, they were not able to get his face to look “normal”. In order to protect him from people who do not understand nor are able to deal with his condition, his parents Nate and Isabel (played by Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts) keep him at home to be homeschooled. But once he reaches 5th grade, they finally decide that maybe it is time to not shield him so much, and enroll him into public school, so that he can interact with other kids his own age. And this movie is that journey. And it is shown from the perspectives of Auggie, his older sister Olivia (Via), as well from two others.

It shows the highs and lows of his journey- the struggle of the people around him to learn compassion and acceptance, along with the side story of the struggle of Via (played by Izabela Vidovic) to deal with Auggie taking up most of his parents’ time and attention.

This movie is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, with an excellent cast who did very well at pulling off who the essence of their characters. It was very well put together, and it makes me excited to read the book eventually, as we know books tends to expand more on things than movies. Check the movie out if you haven’t!
