At the time I read this book, it was the first book that introduced us to the CIA operative, Mitch Rapp, although technically it’s not the first book in the series. The first book is Term Limits, but Rapp was not in that story. But two other main characters, CIA Director Thomas Stansfield and Deputy Director Irene Kennedy were. Flynn, later wrote two Mitch Rapp prequels (American Assassin, and Kill Shot). He wrote 10 books in the Mitch Rapp series before he sadly passed away in 2013. The book American Assassin was adapted into a movie that was released in 2017 with Dylan O’Brien as Mitch Rapp. The author Kyle Mills took over the Mitch Rapp series after Flynn passed away and wrote 6 additional Mitch Rapp novels to date that bear both his and Flynn’s names on them.
Transfer of Power, as I mentioned is the first time (originally) that we are introduced to Mitch Rapp- and this is an intense story of terrorists attacking and taking over the White House. The Secret Service successfully evacuates the President to the underground bunker, and Mitch Rapp is brought in by the CIA on a mission to infiltrate the White House, attempt to neutralize the threat, and save the President.
I love the series- a hero out to protect the United States, and the fast-paced action where things could be happening in multiple places at once. I also like that there is a core group of characters that are consistent through the series- so you get to know them more (better) as the series progresses.
If you like government/spy thrillers, this series could be for you! If you want to know Mitch Rapp from the very beginning, you could start with the two prequels first. If you google Vince Flynn Mitch Rapp books in order- you will find a list showing you the books in order with the two prequels first.
